Chapter 5 - User Profiles

Setting Up and Managing Users

Before you can begin using DNS, you must create a user profile. A user profile is an acoustic analysis ofyour voice that DNS uses to recognize your dictation. User profiles also store any changes you make to the vocabulary.

When DNS first starts, you’ll be asked to create your first user profile. Use this opportunity to begin using DNS for the first time. Don’t be afraid of making any mistakes. You can always create a new user profile ifyou choose not to continue using this initial one.

Dictation Sources

One of the powerful features of DNS professional, is its ability to allow you to use multiple input devices. With the same user profile, you can dictate using a noise canceling headset, a portable digital voice recorder, or a desktop microphone. Regardless of what input device you choose to use most often, we suggest you begin using the included headset microphone to create your first user profile. This will give you the best opportunity to not only train DNS to understand your voice, but to train yourself on how to use Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

Later in this section, you’ll learn how to designate multiple input devices for your user profile.

Dictation Sources

If the create new user dialogue is not open, go to

NaturallySpeaking > Manage Users...

Click on New Button and The following dialog box will appear:

New Wizard Dialogue Box with the fields: Your name, select your language, choose the destination source, select your general, an advanced buttons, a tick box which will skip the initial training of the user program, and the confirmation buttons: Back (disabled), Next (disabled), Cancel, and the Help button.

In "Your name," into your name. You may want to add a descriptive name, such as "Joe-test profile."
